Your Attitudes Shape Your World

Watch out for attitudes that cloud your judgment about the opposite sex. If an unexamined life is not worth living, perhaps it's time to ask yourself:

1. "Where did this attitude come from?"
2. "Is this my attitude or something I learned from my parents/peers/teachers/any other influential person in my childhood?"
3. "If this attitude is not mine (originally), does it fit for me? Why do I believe it?"
4. "Is this attitude helping me or hurting me in my dating quest?"
5. "Is my attitude towards the opposite sex accurate?"

Your attitudes can include pronouncements such as

• All men are evil
• All women are gold diggers
• All men cheat
• If we marry we'll just get a divorce, so it's better to just live together
• Women are emotional, irrational creatures
• Men are commitment-phobic and emotionally unavailable
• All the good ones are married or gay
• After marriage, the romance goes away

You see where I'm going? Usually the attitudes are generalizations with the words "always," "all," or "never" included. We believe our attitudes and do not bother to examine them. Get this: your attitudes and beliefs are just opinions! Stop acting as if your attitudes are facts. Challenge your attitudes now and replace them with something more helpful!
