If you don't know what you're looking for in a relationship, it doesn't matter what kind of relationship you get, right? Of course, you know I'm kidding.
The sad truth is that most people who are looking for love have no real idea of what they're looking for. It's like driving to a particular destination with no road map and no sense of which direction to start from or go to. If you don't know where you're going, any direction will get you there.
What I usually hear from people who want to find True Love is a list of characteristics they want in a mate. They don't consider that they may have to work on themselves to be able to attract what they want. They don't consider that they may have personality traits that would repel the kind of person they want.
So when I ask, "What are you looking for in a relationship?" how would you answer this question?
I'm asking you to define the things you absolutely must have in a relationship to make it successful. If you focus on what you want the other person to bring to the relationship, you're only looking one part of it.
For example, you might say, "I want someone who will love me for who I am." OK, who are you? What does this mean? Does it mean you have a terrible, hair-trigger temper and you expect your sweetheart to remain calm and loving when you decide to blow a fuse? Is this realistic?
This is just one example of how many people don't really examine their own behavior when looking for love. They look for unconditional love from a mate, when they cannot give it. My challenge for you today is to really examine your behaviors, especially the ones that need improvement, and start working on being the person you want to find. Create the best "you" and you will find your search for your True Love will be easier. Define what you must have to create a successful relationship and you will find you've created a road map to your destination.
